Here are some more resources to better understand how proposed federal budget cuts could impact health and human services for families in Blair, Cambria, and Somerset Counties. 

 

For Nonprofit Advocacy:

For Early Childhood Advocacy:

The Children’s Defense Fund: An organization that acts as an advocate for children across the nation, especially those from low-income and minority backgrounds, and those with special needs.  

National Association for the Education of Young Children: A professional membership organization dedicated to improving the well-being of all young children, with a focus on the quality of educational and developmental services for children from birth through age 8. 

For Food Policy Advocacy: 

Civil Eats-Food Policy Tracker: An award-winning news site dedicated to critical thinking about the American food system.  

The Food Policy Institute: Established in 1999 by the Consumer Federation of America, the Food Policy Institute conducts research and advocacy to promote a safer, healthier, and more affordable food supply.  

Feeding America: A nonprofit organization networking with food pantries and advocating for policies that create long-term solutions to hunger. 

For Education Advocacy:  

National Education Association: A membership organization advocating for fully funded public schools. They are dedicated to improving classrooms, securing school funding, and advancing social and racial justice for all. 

American Council on Education: A membership organization that works on behalf of the nation's colleges and universities to ensure members are connected to policymakers and represented as officials make critical decisions on Capitol Hill 

Teach Plus National Policy & Advocacy Network: A nonpartisan network of teachers to inform important decisions at the federal, state, and local level - and to build a teacher leadership movement for educational equity. 

For Healthcare Advocacy: 

American Medical Association: Helps physicians build a better future for medicine, advocating in the courts and on the Hill to remove obstacles to patient care. 

National Association for Heathcare Advocacy: Dedicated to improving patient outcomes through the promotion of the profession of health care advocacy through empowerment, education, and collaboration. 

Advocates for Community Health: A nonpartisan membership organization focused on advancing the Health Center mission by advocating for bold and meaningful health policy changes. 

For Veterans:  

Disabled American Veterans: A strong and influential voice for veterans’ rights and benefits, fighting on Capitol Hill for the rights of veterans, and informing the public and lawmakers of the challenges veterans face. 

Veterans of Foreign Wars: A long-standing voice that represents veterans everywhere and defends their rights and benefits.
