Volunteers have been busy packing tens of thousands of Pampers, Huggies and other brands of diapers into parcels of 25.
It's the result of a diaper drive started by the United Way of Southern Alleghenies last summer to build a stockpile that will supply diapers to dispersal points strategically located in Cambria and Somerset Counties utilizing the United Way's network of collaborating partners.
Hundreds of individuals and numerous businesses and organizations contributed to the collection.
Teams of volunteers have been spending hours at the United Way's Johnstown office to repackage and label the diapers. About one out of three families struggle to afford diapers, according to the National Diaper Bank Network.
This service will help to fill the void many families face each month. The banks, intended as a supplemental service, will be open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. the last Tuesday of the month.
