The United Way of the Laurel Highlands is the recipient of two American Rescue Plan Act grants, one from the City of Johnstown and the other from Cambria County.
A grant of $157,000 from the city will expand Parents as Teachers and the Diaper Bank programs, providing parent education and enabling infants to get off to a good start in life.
Parents as Teachers is implemented in both Cambria and Somerset Counties and prepares children emotionally, socially and academically for kindergarten. The growing Diaper Bank has provided about 20,000 diapers to nearly 1,000 families in both counties since February, via a network of distribution points.
Funds in the amount of $18,000 from Cambria County will support 211, a 24/7 hotline connecting residents of Cambria and Somerset Counties with essential health and human services.
THE IMPACT

- PA 211 had a contact volume locally of more than 1,500 people last year
