Women United of the Laurel Highlands held its signature event earlier this month at the Pasquerilla Conference Center in Downtown Johnstown.
Power of the Purse set a record for the fundraiser, which raises money for evidence-based programming, including early childhood development and parental engagement. Organizers hoped to raise $35,000, but the goal was surpassed, as $45,000 was raised on Oct. 7.
Here are some photos taken from Women United of the Laurel Highlands Power of the Purse event, held Oct. 7, 2021, in Johnstown. They were taken by Kalyn Everett. Thanks to everyone who helped with the event, and to all those who attended.
Proceeds benefit early childhood development in Cambria and Somerset Counties. The diaper drive, new to the event, brought in more than 21,800 diapers to help local families.

There's a tribe in another part of the world that has a unique greeting.
According to Greater Johnstown Superintendent Amy Arcurio, they don't say "hello," "what's up" or "how are you?" Instead, she said they ask, "how are your children?"
Arcurio was the keynote speaker Wednesday at the United Way of the Laurel Highlands 2021 Campaign Kickoff Breakfast in Johnstown. As an educator, she said that she has direct experience with the United Way's impact on children in the community.

The 2020 Campaign resulted in more than $859,000 in grants going to 24 Partner Agencies in Cambria and Somerset Counties.

Thanks to everyone who participated in the 1st Annual Bob Zahurak Painting Night, which benefited United Way of the Laurel Highlands Women United.
It was hosted by Steelworkers Union 2632, of which Bob was a member.
Bob was a loyal supporter of our work in Cambria and Somerset Counties. Sadly, Bob lost his battle with COVID-19, but his legacy to support us and his community will go on.
The event raised $3,000 for UWLH Women United.
